Nice comfortable room with character and charm. Hotel is convenient for the river and city. It is my current, (09/2025), go-to hotel when I wish to stay in York. As there is no in-house restaurant, (apart from breakfast which is served in your room if ordered), it's good to know that there is a pub very close-by that serves good unpretentious food, (as well as a decent pint), and a number of cafes within a short walking distance.

The most obvious plus for us was the wonderful reception staff, available 24 hours and so willing to help. Everything was very good and when I belatedly expressed my preference for a bath as opposed to a shower, I was immediately offered a different room for the rest of our stay and our luggage was transferred whilst we were out for the day. The rooms - I can say that, having experienced two - are clean, comfortable and quiet. The location was particularly good for us travelling by train and if you use the 'new' bridge to reach the Jorvik Guest House on foot, you will cut 20 minutes off your journey. It was also very convenient to walk into the city centre, where we recommend 'Bailey's' for food and 'The Red House' for antiques and collectables.

This is my second time staying at Jorvik House as a solo traveller. The staff are helpful and accomodating and the hotel is lovely and in a perfect location for exploring York. Rooms are a good size, amenities are great (tv, hairdryer, minibar, fan, kettle and complimentary tea/coffee). Loved my view of Museum Gardens from the top floor room and found the early check-in incredibly helpful and really reasonably priced- (i arrived before even the Early Checkin time and was happy just to wait in the lounge until it was time to check in but the room was already available for me and I was shown to my room/helped with my bags - fantastic service!)

Lovely small hotel in a fantastic location just behind the museum gardens. Short walk from the city centre but very quiet. No parking on-site but the Marygate carpark is just behind the hotel and is pretty good value for 24 hours. The receptionist was friendly and very helpful. The room was a good size with two comfy single beds and everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The room lighting was very well designed with a dimmable main light(s), independent bedside lights and a soft nightlight behind the headboard of the beds. The curtains were proper blackout curtains, there was an exceedingly well stocked mini bar / fridge, the heating was easily controlled and the windows opened. Everything was spotlessly clean and there were bins in both the bedroom and the bathroom.

Our room was cosy and the bed was really comfortable. The staff were really warm and friendly and offered suggestions for pubs, restaurants and other tourist attractions. The location of the guest house was excellent; it was only a 5 minute walk through York gardens (which was directly opposite) to all the main city centre shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. It is ideal if you travel by train as it is only a short 5 - 10 minute walk from the station to the guest house.

I stay in York quite a bit and so far this is my favourite hotel. It's small and quirky and very comfortable. It's not the type of hotel with a large foyer and reception, instead there is one staff member in a little office which is just fine by me. There isn't a bar or restaurant but the wonderful Minster Inn is just down the road. My only issue is that there is no sound proofing so it can be noisy because of other guests. For example you can hear the toilet flush and television but I think the noise levels might be dependent upon the room you stay in. It's walking distance to the train station which is perfect for me and also in to the center of York although that's a bit longer.
